People want to be fit, but sometimes they think that they need to invest a lot more than is really necessary to set themselves on a path to better fitness. People get the wrong idea about exercise and fitness. Personal fitness doesn't need to be a long-term commitment to a grueling, exhausting training program that forces you to get up at 5am, and run you to til you drop. It can as easy as two 15-minute walks every day, some light aerobic exercise three times a week, or even just casual team or individual sports activities a few times each week. It isn't necessary to train yourself for a marathon in order to be fit. Fitness is more about being more active, along with other healthy choices.
Getting off of the couch wouldn't be that difficult if you just set small goals for yourself. Perhaps it might be something as small as walking with the kids to school each day, or talking the family dog for a walk up to the mall. Bicycling to work might be something to consider if you have a short commute, and at the same time you can save money on extremely high gas prices and reduce your carbon footprint. Playing tennis, or just throwing a frisbee around at the park can contribute to your fitness levels without having it feel like you're putting yourself through boot camp.
When it comes to personal fitness, the key plan is to be active. Your activities don't need to be rigorous--it's not necessary to hike to the top of a mountain, or swim across a lake. Being fit can be a regular routine of jogging, walking, biking, or other healthy pastimes that don't require you to push yourself to the point of exhaustion. Just remember that all exercise that can get your heart pumping a little bit faster (but not too fast) is a step in the right direction. |
